VELASQUEZ S, Rosalía et al. Somatic embryogenesis in pod tree. Agronomía Trop. [online]. 2006, vol.56, n.4, pp.593-600. ISSN 0002-192X.
Pod tree has been largely used during the last years for its wood is highly appreciated for elaboration and design of household furniture. Indiscriminate used and the lack of recuperation, renewal and breeding programs have provoted damage at the genetic making the species more susceptible to pest and diseases. Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a good alternative for asexual propagation, because seeds have too many problems with germination and endogen contamination. Callus and SE induction from immature cotyledon and embryos growing in MS medium and provided with two different grow regulators (auxins and cytokinins) were the objectives of study. The SE was induced from immature cotyledons, growing in MS medium supplemented with 0,01 mg l-1 TDZ and 30 g l-1 sucrose under dark condition and 28 °C. It was demonstrated that the cytokinins induce a better development of explant than the auxins.
