GONZALEZ A, Jorge A; OROPEZA C, Maira; VARGAS C, Teresa Edith y DE GARCIA, Eva. Somatic embryogenesis for two species of plantago genus (Plantago major L. y Plantago hirtella Kunth). Agronomía Trop. [online]. 2006, vol.56, n.4, pp.689-695. ISSN 0002-192X.
With the purpose of inducing the process of somatic embryogenesis, segments of young leaves of Plantago major L. and Plantago hirtella Kunth plants were cultured in vitro in Murashige and Skoog (MS) media, supplemented with myoinositol (10 mg l-1), thiamine (0,4 mg l-1), pyridoxine (0,5 mg l-1), nicotinic acid (0,5 mg l-1), glycine (2,0 mg l-1), sucrose (3%) and solidified with agar (8 g l-1). Different 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid concentrations were tested (0; 0,05; 0,1; 0,3; 0,5 and 1,0 mg l-1). Since the third week of culture, a nodular and friable light brown callus developed. One week later, somatic embryos originated on callus surface. Around 65% of the explants produced embryos at the eighth week of culture, with absence of synchronization in the different stages of embryo development.
