To identify the causal agent of damage in stems of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.), there were analyzed vegetal samples brought in by producers to the Unit of Fitosanitary Diagnosis of the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agricolas (INIA) in Trujillo, and samples took by technician of the INIA in different areas of the state where tomato is grown. In addition also weeds with symptoms of damage bordering the cultivated areas were collected. Larvae and pupas obtained of the vegetal samples were placed in chambers of young and emergency to be observed, and to obtaining their adults. The larvae and adults were identified through taxonomic keys, and by comparison with specimens of the Museum of the Institute of Zoology Agricola (MIZA) of the Central University of Venezuela, and of the Museum of Agricultural Interest of the INIA. The presence of Melanagromyza tomaterae Steyskal (Díptera: Agromyzidae) a stem borer of the tomato is registered. From the young a Pteromalidae (probably Syntomopus sp.) and a Figitidae: Eucoilinae (Tribliographa brasiliensis Ihering) were obtained. This last was considered as a new report. The weeds were identified as Hyptis suaveolens L. (Lamiaceae), Amaranthus spinosus L. (Amaranthaceae) and Bidens pilosa L. (Asteraceae), all of them are new registries of association with the fly. A brief information and photographies on the damage is shown in this report.
