The main local crops (vines and fruit trees principally) need some amount of cold weather during winter. Using the available information from traditional meteorological stations, which count with just temperature data from 9 am, 3 pm and 9 pm, and the daily minimum and maximum, the daily temperature sequence, since May to September, was plot with the five above mentioned first four values. This graphic was tested as estimator to the chilling hours in Chacras de Coria, comparing its results with the quantity of chilling hours obtained from the traditional termograph recording paper. Daily and monthly values of both sequences were compared for a period of 19 years, giving r2= 0.919, with some overestimation in years with temperate winters and underestimation in severe winters. This methodology is considered a good estimator of chilling hours with basic meteorological data, allowing the calculation in real time, day by day if required, and with no necessity of the twelve annual values of temperature, even though it could be used with climatic data. The monthly values obtained assure a good estimation to the annual ones. The feasibility of doing the graph in a computer makes it easy to get results almost immediately and transfer them.
