To reduce excessive application and determine the combined effects of doses of nitrogen (N) and herbicides on the development and production of the rice (Oryza sativa L.) variety FONAIAP 1, on condition of zero tillage, a trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of three doses N (40, 80 and 160 kg N ha^-1) and four doses of chemical weed control [2 and 4 liter ha^-1 of glyphosate® (G)] in pre-emergence, and 2 and 4 liters of G in pre-emergency + (6 liter of propanil + 2 liter of bentazon) in post emergency (CP) on grain yield (Rg), plant height (AP), number of stems per m² (NT) and panicles per m² (NP), number of grains per panicle (NG), weight of 1.000 grains (P₁₀₀₀) and N use efficiency by the crop (EUN) were evaluated. A rando-mized blocks design with 12 treatments and fourt replications was used. The rice variety was FONAIAP 1, direct seeding on a silt loam soil and watered by flood. The results showed that the variety responded to the application of N above 80 kg ha^-1 and significant differences in 160 kg ha^-1 Rg, AP, NG and P₁₀₀₀. In chemical control treatments pre and CP, no significant diffe-rences in the application of N were detected below 80 kg ha^-1, but where there was greater EUN. Best Rg was obtained with 80 and 160 kg N ha^-1 and 960 and 1.920 g a.i. G ha^-1.
