BORDINHON DE MORAES, Mrs. Mariana et al. P001/S1-P1 DIET QUALITY IN PATIENTS WITH WEIGHT REGAIN AFTER ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS. Arch Latinoam Nutr [online]. 2023, vol.73, suppl.1, pp.167-167.  Epub 05-Jan-2025. ISSN 0004-0622.

Introduction:

The roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a surgical procedure and an effective option for the treatment of severe obesity. Despite the efficacy of RYGB for the treatment of obesity, weight regain (WR) is a common longterm complication of RYGB. Poor-quality diets are associated with adverse health outcomes such as weight regain. The evaluation of diets using the Global Diet Quality Score (GDQS) is an important tool for assessing nutritional adequacy and the management of chronic non-communicable diseases.

Objective:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the quality of diet in patients who have weight regain after RYGB.

Methods:

Use the GDQS tool in the 24-hour recall of patients with weight regain of 10-20% and ≥30% of their nadir weight within a minimum period of 24 months after RYGB. GDQS score <15 points is considered a high risk for poor diet quality outcomes.

Results:

A total of 33 patients were included in the study, 16 (48.4%) with 10-20% WR and 17 (51.5%) with ≥ 30% WR. The age was 45.1 ± 7.6 years and 41.7 ± 1.6 years (p = 0.194); the time after RYGB was 6 (4-7) years vs 7 (6-9) years (p = 0.046); BMI was 34,6 (33-39) kg/m² vs 40 (37-46) kg/m² (p = 0.009). Regarding the quality diet, the GDQS showed a mean 9 points for 10-20% WR group and 7.5 ≥ 30% WR group (p = 0.305); the kilocalories ingested were, respectively, 1157.1kcal vs 1405.7kcal (p = 0.358)

Conclusion:

The weight regains patients have a poor score quality of the diet.
