HUN, Nelson et al. Quality of life and dietary quality in adults in northern Chile. Arch Latinoam Nutr [online]. 2025, vol.75, n.1, pp.18-26. Epub 15-Ago-2025. ISSN 0004-0622. https://doi.org/10.37527/2025.75.1.003.
Introduction:
Quality of life is influenced by individual and contextual determinants that must be evaluated from the perspective of the person experiencing it. It is composed of several dimensions that may be related to a higher or lower food quality.
Objective:
was to compare quality of life and its dimensions according to dietary quality categories in Chilean adults.
Methodology:
Cross-sectional study, the total sample was 506 individuals over 18 years of age, residents of northern Chile. A battery of questionnaires consisting of the global food quality index and the WHO quality of life questionnaire, short version, was applied. The battery was digitally designed and answered autonomously. Statistical analysis was performed for the categorical variables using cross-tabulations and tests of mean differences were carried out to evaluate the relationship between the variables.
Results:
A significant difference was evidenced in the relationship of the physical, psychological and environmental dimensions with respect to eating quality; not so in the social dimension, where no statistically significant relationship with the eating quality of the population was appreciated.
Conclusions:
It was determined that there is a directly proportional relationship between quality of life and eating quality in adults from northern Chile.
