Abstract

PARLAPIANNO, Donatella et al. Determinación del Helicobacter pylori en la placa dental por el test de la ureasa en pacientes dispépticos. Gen [online]. 2006, vol.60, n.3, pp.179-182. ISSN 0016-3503.

In the Gastroenterology Unit of the University Hospital of the Andes (I.A.H.U.L.A.) an epidemiologic, observational, descriptive, crosssectional study was made with a control group to determine the presence of Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) in the dental plate by means of the ureasa test compared with the culture of the microorganism, from March to May of the year 2004. Results: 147 patients are evaluated who show voluntarily to the study, 97 (66%) have dyspepsia and 50 (34%) do not (control group), catalogued as Group 1 and Group 2 respectively. The ureasa test in the gastric antrum is positive in 50 (51.1%) patient of group 1 and 29 (58%) patients from group 2. The ureasa test in the dental plate is positive in 99, 3% (n=146) of the studied patients. The ureasa test in the dental plate is compared to the culture, we found that 146 (99%) patients show positive to the ureasa test, but H. pylori can not be isolated in the dental plate of any of the patients. As to the correlation between the test of ureasa in the dental plate and the culture of H. pylori in the gastric antrum there were 74 (50.3%) patients in whom the microorganism was isolated and are positive for the ureasa test in the dental plate. Of the 72 (49%) patients from whom the microorganism was not isolated from the gastric antrum show positive for the ureasa test in the dental plate. There is no statistical significant correlation between the tests. Conclusion: The ureasa test is not a specific diagnosis method to determine the presence of H. pylori in the dental plate.
