Abstract

LOPEZ, Ana; RODRIGUEZ, Solangel; PERNALETE, Beatriz  and  NOGUERA, Maritza. Hepatitis C y su relación con niveles de glicemia e insulina. Gen [online]. 2006, vol.60, n.4, pp.273-278. ISSN 0016-3503.

Epidemiologist studies suggest a relation between Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2 and infection by C Virus determined by a state of hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. The efforts to explain it suggest that its another independent characteristic from others, such as: age, body mass index, family history of DM; where genetic mechanisms are implied:, free radicals, and even the " C " virus; accelerating the progression to hepatic cirrhosis and DM type 2, being both public health problems in our country. This cross-sectional and descriptive study determined basal and postprandial levels of insulin and glycemia in 40 patients distributed in 2 groups: one infected with C virus and another, without hepatic disease and epidemiology characteristics similar to the first, at the Military Hospital Dr. Carlos Arvelo; demonstrating that hyperglycemia exists as an independent risk factor in patients with Virus C, not finding hyperinsulinism statistically significant.
