Resumen

FERNANDEZ, José Miguel et al. Correlación de hallazgos de ecoendoscopia y su relación con indicaciones. Gen [online]. 2007, vol.61, n.3, pp.185-187. ISSN 0016-3503.

A retrospective review was carried out on endoscopic ultrasound reports at the Gastroenterology Service of the "Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo" from January 2003 to December 2004 in order to evaluate the main indications and diagnoses obtained. Results: A total of 98 endoscopic ultrasound scans were performed on patients aged 49, 10 μ 14, 99, ranging from 16 to 81 years of age. Of these, 54 (55.10%) were men. The main indications were: evaluation of sub epithelial lesions 34 (34.69%), diagnosis and classification of tumors 19 (19.38%); clinical suspicion of biliary pancreatitis 18 (18.30%) and the rest due to images of extrinsic compression, endometriosis, gastric varicose veins, gastrointestinal lymphoma and evaluation of cystic lesions of the pancreas. Of the total number of endoscopic ultrasound scans performed, 23 (23.46%) reported normal results and in the case of the evaluation of sub epithelial lesions, their presence was demonstrated. Conclusion: Ecoendoscopy permits a safe evaluation of sub epithelial lesions; these can also be differentiated from extrinsic compression images and it allows us to make reliable pre-operative tumor staging. Nearly 25% of the references were inappropriate and do not add value to patient management.
