Resumen
CACERES, Zoraida et al. Absceso hepático ascardiano en la migración errática de Áscaris Lumbricoides en niños. Gen [online]. 2007, vol.61, n.4, pp.262-265. ISSN 0016-3503.
Ascariasis is one of the most common types of parasites in people living in tropical countries, with sanitarian deficiencies affecting children. Ascaris lumbricoides can migrate to the biliary tree producing an array of complications such as hepatic abscess. We present a descriptive and retrospective review of 14 paediatric patients with the diagnosis of erratic migration of ascaris. Twelve developed hepatic abscess between 2002 and 2005. The most affected age group was preschool children (57.14%) with Graffar V. All the patients presented abdominal pain, oral or rectal ascaris expulsion and abdominal distension. Laboratory test results revealed elevated liver enzymes in 9/14 (64,28%) and total serum bilirubin levels in 9/14 (64,28%). Ultrasonography was the diagnostic method of choice. All patients received antibiotic and anthelmintic treatment. In cases of ascaris migration we always need to suspect and to rule out the possibility of developing hepatic abscess as a complication.
