Abstract

CLOTET, Juan et al. Efectividad del tratamiento con agonistas gaba a (Pentobarbital) en el síndrome de intestino irritable con dolor: Año 2005. Gen [online]. 2007, vol.61, n.4, pp.277-280. ISSN 0016-3503.

A blind, controlled and placebo crossed clinical test was performed; unicentric, co-relational and prospective; in order to evaluate the effect of the use of agonist GABA A (pentobarbital), on the irritable bowel syndrome with pain, the number and the consistency of bowel movements, as well as the tolerance of the drug (pentobarbital) in patients. They were selected, according to the elaboration of a directed clinical history in search of Rome II criteria for IBS, in a group of 20 patients, predominantly female(18), who attended the consultation of gastroenterology at the City Hospital  "Dr. Enrique Tejera" in the period between February to June of 2005. Aleatory groups were formed with patients administered with pentobarbital enemas, 50 of the patients (10), and a control group to which saline solution enemas was administered as placebo (10). Patients under treatment with antidepressants, psychotropics, benzodiacepines or sleep inducers were excluded. For the statistical analysis we calculated the StudentÊs t with the purpose of providing significance to the values obtained as well as to provide confidence limits. We concluded that improvement of pain and other symptoms was obtained in patients with IBS (p = 0.0003) statistically significant, when compared to the control group who did not receive the drug.

Keywords : pentobarbital; irritable bowel syndrome with pain.
