MARQUEZ, Reinaldo; GUZMAN, Jaemmy y GARASSINI, Miguel. Cuerpos extraños en tracto gastrointestinal: Estudio de 152 pacientes. Gen [online]. 2008, vol.62, n.3, pp.179-181. ISSN 0016-3503.
Objectives: To assess patients with the intake of foreign body, the location and type of complications. Materials and methods: A retrospective descriptive study of 152 patients admitted by the emergency service at the University Hospital of Caracas with suspected intake of foreign body between April 2005 and April 2007, which underwent medical history, cervical radiograph AP and lateral and UDE with their removal. Results: of 152 patients who entered the study, 95 were noted with the presence of foreign body, 16 patients with signs suggestive of its presence and 39 without evidence of foreign body. It was noted that they were located in 34% in the esophageal middle third and the foreign bodies mostly found were bones of animals and fish bones with a total of 84.20%. Conclusions: The intake of foreign bodies is one of the most common causes of conducting emergency upper endoscopy and its realization allows both the removal and the identification of the associated pathologies.
