History is a sequence of events and facts often summarized in a cold and objective way. History, however is much more than that. It is drama, excitement and passion of the human experience. The history of medicine in general and gastroenterology are full of these dramas, where the vision, persistence and perseverante of one person has been a motor for change. We briefly summarize the history of gastroenterology and contributions of Ismar Boas and Joel Valencia Parparcen and the parallels in their lives.
