Abstract
ALVAREZ, Bethseidy et al. Cholelithiasis in adolescent patients admitted to a hospital capital. Gen [online]. 2013, vol.67, n.4, pp.220-224. ISSN 0016-3503.
Introduction: The incidence of cholelithiasis is about 2% for Europe and the U.S., but this fact is unknown to our country. Abdominal ultrasound is increasingly used to diagnose cholelithiasis in childhood and adolescence, just as for adults. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics in adolescent patients.12-18 admitted for gallstone disease in eleven years. Patients and Methods: A descriptive, retrospective and cross. The information was obtained from the medical records of patients admitted with a diagnosis of gallstones. Results: The sample was composed of 24 patients, of whom only one was male (4.17%). The 58.33% were between 17 and 18 years now. The 91.67% of patients were hospitalized for abdominal pain and other complications. USA was performed at 100% of patients for diagnosis. The 33.33% already had at least one child. 75% were resolved by laparoscopic cholecystectomy, 6 (12.5%) for open cholecystectomy and 6 (12.5%) for medical treatment. Conclusions: The gallstone disease is common in female adolescents. Surgical treatment was performed without complications recent or late, in 87.5% of patients.
