FORTINO, Yasmira; ROSAS, Loreny  e  FANEITE, Geryant. Eosinophilic esophagitis: A purpose of a case. Gen [online]. 2013, vol.67, n.4, pp.225-227. ISSN 0016-3503.

The eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) is a primary, chronic disease of the esophagus, whose knowledge has increased in recent years. It is characterized by: symptoms esophageal and / or upper gastrointestinal mainly dysphagia and esophageal food impaction in adults, and food intolerance and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in children. Presence of more than 15 eosinophils per high magnification field (CMA) in one or more esophageal mucosal biopsies of exclusion of pathologic GER evidenced by normal pH monitoring or lack of clinical response - high dose pathological pump inhibitors proton (IBP). Its prevalence is increasing and affects mostly children and young white adults, especially males in a 3:1 ratio, 60% of patients with EE have a history of allergy and 20-40% family history atopy. Caused by an allergic reaction to certain foods and / or cytokine-mediated aeroallergens and genetic changes involved. The diagnosis is clinical, endoscopic and pathologic. Treatment includes dietary and topical corticosteroid generally. We report the case of a 44 year old female with dysphagia ten years of evolution and occasional food impaction without personal or family history of allergy. Endoscopic and histopathological findings corresponded to EE with satisfactory response to treatment.
