Abstract

MERHEB, Michelle et al. Reclassification of serrated lesions of the colon. Gen [online]. 2017, vol.71, n.3, pp.110-113. ISSN 2477-975X.

Introduction: It is well known the importance of the detection and resection of the colon adenomas, even more since Longacre y Fenoglio - Preiser in 1990 introduced the term Serrated Adenoma . Met hods: We review 71 samples with the diagnosis of hiperplastic polyp and serrated adenoma in the anatomopathologic institute “Dr José A O Daly”. There was applied the new criteria for the reclassification of lesions. Results: forty seven with previous diagn osis of hyperplastic polyp were reclassified as sessile serrated adenoma/polyp , tubular adenoma, retention polyp with adenomatous changes . Twenty four cases of serrated adenomas were reclassified as sessile serrated adenoma/polyp, hyperplastic polyp, tub ular adenoma (8) and Peutz - Jeghers polyp. Discussion : the morfologic distinction between colorectal serrated lesions is challenging, it is necessary to have well established the new histologic and cytologic criteria. We reclassified the 55% of the lesions and the other 45% stayed with the previous diagnosis. It is important the correct diagnosis due to the specific risk of progression to colorectal carcinoma for each lesion.

Keywords : Serrated adenoma; Sessile serrated adenoma/polyp; hiperplastic polyp.
