PEREIRA, Freddy et al. PLASTIC STENTS AS A TREATMENT STRATEGY FOR DIFFICULT RETAINED BILE DUCT STONES . Gen [online]. 2018, vol.72, n.1, pp.16-20. ISSN 2477-975X.
Objetive: to compare the employment of single vs. multiple biliary plastic Stents (PS) for treating difficult bile duct stones (DBDS). Methods: a prospective, descriptive, observational study was carried out. The data was collected between May 2010 and May 2013. The study group consisted in 14 patients with PDBDS and total endoscopic resolution. The SPSS program (21.0 version) was employed. Results: 42,9% of patients have a laparoscopic cholecystectomy background. In 5 patients multiple PS were used and in 5 patients a single PS was employed. The PS remained in place during 10,8 months in average. The bile ducts clearance was achieved employing one endoscopic procedure in 77,8% of patients with a single PS and in 80% with multiple PS (P=0,923), the rest of patients required more than one endoscopic procedure. Conclusions: there are not a statistically significant difference between de number of employed plastic stents, stent placement time and the number of required procedures; however, we observed a trend in favor of multiple stents use. We consider performing future researches related to this topic.
