Abstract
LOUIS PEREZ, Cesar; DELGADO COVA, Gabriel; SANCHEZ APONTE, Gabriel and LOUIS-CHAD, Cesar. Nutcracker esophagus: correlation between clinical and manometric findings. Gen [online]. 2021, vol.75, n.1, pp.19-24. Epub Apr 17, 2021. ISSN 0016-3503.
Objective:
To evaluate the relation between non cardiac chest pain and nutcracker esophagus using the Gothenburg's classification.
Methods:
descriptive, analytical and comparative study; with a non-experimental, transversal and retrospective design. The sample consisted of 39 patients who attended two private reference centers in Caracas (Centro Médico Docente la Trinidad y Hospital Clínicas Caracas) for the performance of manometric studies, during the period from January 2007 to June 2018.
Results:
Of the 38 patients studied, the female sex predominated (65.78%), average age 41-50 years (29%), GERD symptoms were observed in 71% and chest pain in 21% as cardinal symptoms, 25% of patients with chest pain presented a short lower esophageal sphincter as well as absence of an intra-abdominal portion (62%).
Conclusions:
patients with nutcraker are more related to have GERD symptons as the main sympton, in patients with chest pain as a main sympton a short lower esophageal sphincter and the absence of an intra-abdominal portion seems to be related.
Keywords : Non cardiac chest pain; manometry; nutcracker esophagus; hypercontractile esophagus.
