Abstract

LIRIANO, Carlos  and  AROCHA, Raúl. Tuberculous enterocolitis ¿What to do? About a case. Gen [online]. 2021, vol.75, n.2, pp.71-75.  Epub Oct 23, 2021. ISSN 0016-3503.

Tuberculosis (TB) is recognized by the WHO as a sustained pandemic, it is one of the 10 main causes of death worldwide and the main cause due to a single infectious agent. A case of a 16-year-old male is reported who consulted for symptoms of chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain and cachexia, with colonoscopy findings of extensive transverse ulcers and pseudotumor lesions, histopathology compatible with granulomatous inflammation; Despite not isolating the microorganism, he presented clinical improvement after antituberculous treatment. The increase in the prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease in TB endemic countries, along with migrations of people from endemic areas to non-endemic areas, as well as the reality that all patients with IBD who start biological therapy must carry out a TB screening, It forces the specialist to recognize the sum of clinical and paraclinical elements that will make it possible to clarify the diagnosis and lead a correct treatment and follow-up regimen.
