Abstract
MONTERO, Rafael; SOTO, Claudia and ARROYO, Roselyn. Pseudomembranous colitis in a patient with covid-19. Report of a case. Gen [online]. 2021, vol.75, n.2, pp.76-79. Epub Oct 23, 2021. ISSN 0016-3503.
From the moment of the publication of the first cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, different gastrointestinal symptoms associated with it have been described, highlighting diarrhea, abdominal pain and nausea as part of the symptoms in patients with COVID 19 in 30% of the cases, the development of these symptoms in infected patients could be in correlation with other coexisting entities in the patient. We present a case of a patient with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID 19 who, after hospitalization and initiation of antibiotic therapy, presented with diarrheal syndrome later complicated by acute appendicitis and without improvement with established therapy until the final diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis due to imaging and endoscopic findings with subsequent favorable evolution to treatment with oral vancomycin.
