Abstract
MARQUEZ, Lourdes et al. Serous cystoadenocarcinoma of the pancreas: A case report. Gen [online]. 2021, vol.75, n.2, pp.80-84. Epub Oct 24, 2021. ISSN 0016-3503.
Cystic neoplasms of the pancreas account for 1% of all pancreatic malignancies. Among these lesions, we know that serous cystadenoma is one of the most frequent, considered benign behavior and histology, it is diagnosed mainly in women from the 6th decade of life. However, the malignant characteristics of this lesion have been scarcely reported in the literature and the diagnosis is made by observing neoplastic infiltration in the surrounding tissue or the presence of distant metastases. Next, we present the case of a female patient, of reproductive age, with abdominal pain in the mesogastrium and the incidental finding on abdominal ultrasound of a cystic lesion towards the body and tail of the pancreas. Given the imaging characteristics, the diagnosis of pancreatic serous cystadenoma was raised and she was sent to surgery. After the pathological analysis, irregular glandular infiltration towards the wall of the lesion was observed, giving the criterion for malignancy. A brief bibliographic review of the subject is carried out and the pathological characteristics of the lesion are highlighted for their identification.
