SUMMARY Objective: To know the perinatal results in risk pregnancies and to evaluate the association between the grade of identified risk with the severity of the results. Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hospital "Dr. Adolfo Prince Lara", Port Hair, State Carabobo. Method: A prospective, comparative, epidemiological, analytical study of 610 patients assisted during 1999, using a validated quantitative form. Results: From 610 patients, there were 306 (50.16%) high risk, 244 (40%) low- risk, and 60 (9.84%) without risk. Within the intrapartum maternal and placental factors, prevailed the use of oxytocin, pelvic insufficiency and previous placenta. In fetal factors in the high risk were more frequent the cesarean section (42.48%), fetal distress (16,33%), and presentation dystocia (15.35%). In high risk pregnancies there was a higher prematurity (34.96%). In the high risk pregnancy group 144 neonates (46.16%), weight was less than 2 500 g, while in the low risk there were 72 cases (31.43%). In morbility the most frequent were respiratory distress syndrome and hypoxia (65.99%). Mortality was higher in the high risk (8,97%) compared to the low risk group (4.48%). Conclusion: In the high risk group perinatal adversity was more severe, showing an association, that indicates that the instrument badge is useful for assessing damage.
