Objective: To determine the precipitating factors and the germs involved in vulvovaginitis in female children, in a rural area of the Falcon State. Method: Descriptive, prospective, non experimental study in twenty four female children with abnormal secretion in external genitalia. March- June of 1998. Setting: The Vinculo, Falcon Municipality, Falcon State. Results: The precipitating factors were parasitosis 91.67%, use of perfumed soap 91.67%, semisynthetic underwear 70.84%, bad genital hygiene 66.67%, enuresis 20.83% and genital manipulation 12.5%. The most frequent germs were: E. coli 35%, Candida albicans 25% and Enterobacter 15%. Conclusion: The vulvovaginitis is frequent pathology of the prepubertal period due to the anatomical characteristics of genitalia associated to another factors.
