SUMMARY Objective: To know what personal (epidemiological, socioeconomic), institutional and medical factors are related to no prenatal care. Method: Descriptive epidemiological, analytic of cross section, study based on a interview-survey , in patients that have no prenatal care in the current pregnancy or past. We analyze 1 500 cases during the year 2001. Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, "Dr. Adolfo Prince Lara" Hospital, Puerto Cabello, Carabobo State. Results: In epidemiological factors, residence in neighborhoods prevailed (53.33 %), with primary education (45.26 %), civil status concubine (50 %) and the maternal age 25-34 years (49.79 %). With the social factors, dominated the distant home (46.46 %), in the economic ones, the unemployment (35.8 %), in the prenatal education, the ignorance of the importance of pregnancy control (57.66 %). In the institutional factors was decisive the inadequate atmosphere of the consultation (42.6 %) and the distant location of the Center of Health (13.13 %). In medical care factors most didnt express arguments (55.33 %), followed by the opinion bad quality of consultation (15.13 %). Conclusion: There are diverse related factors that imply educational actions support plans to elevate the standard of life, and to establish a plan of integral motivation of health, with improvement of the physical plant.
