The case of a newborn with left congenital diaphragmatic hernia and extrapleural intrathoracic kidney is reported. Left kidney was located in thorax outside the parietal pleura. The diaphragmatic defect was surgically repaired and the kidney was left in its ectopic location. During 5 years of follow-up, the child remained asymptomatic with adequate renal and pulmonary functions. We propose the classification of intrathoracic kidney, according with its location in two varieties, intrapleural and extrapleural. The clinical and imagine characteristics in each varieties of intrathoracic kidney are presented.
