FANEIT, Pedro et al. Estudio nutricional de la embarazada y su neonato. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2003, vol.63, n.2, pp.67-74. ISSN 0048-7732.

Objective: To determine the nutritional status of the pregnant women and her neonate. Method: Descriptive, epidemiological, analytical, prospective study based on an interview-survey, in patients in delivery room. Analysis of 400 cases during 2002. A complete medical record was performed (history, obstetrical situation, neonatal status). An evaluation of nutritional status was done taking into account antropometric measures of weight, size, week of gestation, and the ideal condition, weight gain during pregnancy. The neonate was studied based on weight and size. Setting: Departamento de Obstetricia y Ginecologia, Hospital "Dr. Adolfo Prince Lara", Puerto Cabello , Estado Carabobo , Venezuela .Results: In family history was prominent high blood pressure in 88 cases (22 %) and diabetes 55 (13.75 %); in personal history: abortion 93 cases (23.25 %) and cesarean sections 75 (18.75 %); the reason for admission: labor 252 patients (63 %). In 66 % 267 cases there was no prenatal care, the majority were multygravida 220 (55 %), term pregnancy 356 (89 %), and vaginal delivery 245 cases (61.25 %). There were more male newborns, 225 (56.11 %), weight of 2 500 g or more 371 (92.51 %), size of 45 cm or more 371 (92.52 %), Apgar higher than 7 in 310 cases (77.77 %). Maternal nutritional status was: adequate 355 (88.75 %), deficient 15 (3.75 %), overweight 30 (7,5 %). Neonate nutritional status was: adequate 385 (95.51 %), deficient 6 (1,5 %), overweight 12 (2,99 %). There was a twin pregnancy and two fetal deaths. Conclusion: The pregnant women in spite of belonging to precarious socioeconomic layers with deficient food ingestion present an adequate maternal and neonatal nutrition level . We are in time to implement plans for increasing the standard of life and nutritional orientation.
