Objective: To study twin pregnancy during a decade. Method: Descriptive retrospective and traverse study, of 348 twin pregnancies attended from January 1991 to December 2000. Setting: Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Chiquinquirá Hospital. Maracaibo, Venezuela. Results: There was 1 twin pregnancy for each 106.49 births (0.93 %). The main maternal complications were: anemia (62.06 %), preterm birth (39.08 %) and hypertensive disorders (21.55 %). Preeclampsia incidence was 15.22 % and from them, 58.49 % were severe. Forty nine seventy one percent were born by cesarean section. There were no maternal deaths. Breech presentation was 37.08 % and transverse situation 9.56 %. There was 52.57 % birth weight < 2 500 g. Birth twin interval was < 20 minutes in 71.92 %. Fifty four ninety six percent were dichorionic. Conclusion: Twin pregnancy has maintained its incidence in the studied population, non assisted reproductive technical users. High index of maternal and fetal complications was found. Data are actualized and original items are added.
