Objective: To establish an ideal transoperative fluid therapy for newborn that have to be surgically operated. Method: Prospective study with transversal and descriptive analysis in 36 children submitted to surgical interventions. A modification of the Berrys method of fluid therapy was used. Duration of therapy depended upon surgical pathology. Setting: Maternidad "Concepcion Palacios". Servicio de Cirugia Neonatal. Results: The 80 % of patients presented normal glycemia, 78.26 % normal sodium and 82.60 % normal potassium statistically significant P < 0.05, but not calcium and phosphorus. Conclusions: The method of fluid therapy used in the transoperative period avoid postoperative complications because induce hydroelectrolitic and metabolic stability.
