Objective: Evaluate the use of pentoxifylline in patients, with the diagnosis of established necrotizing enterocolitis, to avoid the reperfusion syndrome or progression of the disease. Method: Prospective study with cross-sectional descriptive analysis of 20 patients, with diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis, stage II (defined) or (III) advances. Setting: Deparment of Pediatric. Maternity "Conception Palacios". Results: In 90 % of the patients (18 cases) the evolution was satisfactory, all of them survivor and only 2 cases (10%) were death. Conclusions: The use of the pentoxifylline, can avoid oxidative stress or reperfusion syndrome, diminishing the morbi-mortality of the patients and with no need to resort to surgery.
