Objective: To study the incidence of urinary infections in pregnancy with preterm labor. Method: Is a descriptive investigation, epidemiologist, of 497 patients with preterm labor, 428 to them was made examinations of urine, and of these 294 (68.69%) reported urinary infection, period December 2001 - December 2004. Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hospital "Dr Adolfo Prince Lara", Puerto Cabello, Estado Carabobo. Results: Incidence of urinary tract infection in preterm labor was 68.69% (294/298). Predominant clinical aspects: pregnancies between 29 and 36 weeks 68.37% (201/294), antecedent of urinary infection 64.63% (190/294) and urinary symptoms present 82.31% (242/294). Urine cultures to 70.06% (206/294), became of the patients, with positive result 66.99% (138/206) of the cases. The more frequent causal germ was escherichia coli 79.71% (110/138), the sensitivity of germs showed that the majority was to ampicillin 38.41% (53/138) and cephalosporin 31.88% (44/138). Conclusion: The preterm labor has narrows relation with urinary infections; to treat suitably allows diminish their consequences.
