Resumen
PASCUZZO-LIMA, Carmine et al. Relación del asma y la hipertensión inducida por el embarazo . Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2006, vol.66, n.2, pp.60-61. ISSN 0048-7732.
Objective: To assess the relationship between asthma and pregnancy-induced hypertension. Methods: Study of 200 cases with pregnancy-induced hypertension and 1 222 controls). The analysis was performed by multiple logistic regression. Setting: Antonio Maria Pineda Hospital, Barquisimeto, Lara State; 1998-2002. Results: There were 131 pregnant women with documented asthma (9.09 %) and pregnancy-induced hypertension was more common in asthmatic subjects (45/131; 34.35 %) than in non-asthmatic subjects (155/1291; 12.01 %). After adjustment for potential confounders, maternal asthma was significantly associated with pregnancy-induced hypertension (odds ratio = 4.05; 95 % confidence interval = 2.71 to 6.06; P < 0.01). Conclusions: This study confirms that asthma is associated with pregnancy-induced hypertension, but the mechanisms that cause this outcome are yet to be assessed.
