NUNEZ TROCONIS *, José T et al. Virus del herpes simple tipo 2: influencia en el origen de las lesiones premalignas y malignas del cuello uterino. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2006, vol.66, n.3, pp.162-171. ISSN 0048-7732.
Objective: To determine if the interaction of herpes simplex virus type 2 with different epidemiological factors, had influence in premalignant and malignant lesions of uterine cervix. Setting: Out-patient clinic of Los Olivos, Cujicito, Salud Maracaibo, La Victoria and out patient cervical pathology clinic, "Manuel Noriega Trigo" Hospital, IVSS, Maracaibo. Methods: Fifty three patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and 10 control patients were studied. A cervical swab sample was obtained for determination of the herpes simplex virus type 2 using an indirect immunofluorescense method and for the human papillomavirus with the polymerase chain reaction technique. Results: The presence of herpes simplex virus type 2 was 27.65 % (n=18) of patients. Patients with cervical premalignant lesions (n = 48) and patients of control group (n = 10) presented 27.1 % and 30 % of positivity of herpes simplex virus type 2, respectively. There was no association between herpes simplex virus type 2 and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Conclusions: The herpes simplex virus type 2 is not associated to premalignany lesions of uterine cervix.
