SUMMARY Objective: To present the conversion of the fetal heart rate paper record into an electronic format. Setting: Unidad de Perinatologia, Puerto Cabello, Departamento Clinico Integral de la Costa y Departamento de Matematicas, Facultad de Ciencias y Tecnologia, Universidad de Carabobo. Methods: The paper record is scanned and the extracted graph is stored as an uncompressed image file in the computer. This image is processed using the program Engauge Digitizer, this program is developed under Public License GNU. The image is converted into a CSV format (data format for Microsoft ® Excel). Results: These numerical data can be retrieved when needed to make graphs as well as to elaborate a data base of clinical and investigative purpose. Conclusion: This research presents a methodology using computer technology as a means to keep information in a numeric and graphic manner of the electronic monitoring records of fetal cardiac frequency.
