FANEITE, Pedro; RIVERA, Clara  y  FANEITE, Josmery. Rotura uterina (1995-2006). Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2007, vol.67, n.2, pp.93-98. ISSN 0048-7732.

Objective: To study the maternal characteristics and the factors related to the uterine rupture during the pregnancy. Method: Analytical, epidemiological and retrospective study, of 34 uterine ruptures that happened between 1996 and 2006 in 48 546 deliveries. Setting: Hospital Dr. “Adolfo Prince Lara”, Puerto Cabello, Estado Carabobo. Results: The frequency of uterine rupture was 0.88 per thousand (1 each 1 237 deliveries). In maternal characteristics, the group of age between 20-34 years of age was 38.24%, parity between 2-7: 58.82%, gestational age between 22-36 weeks: 47.06 %, no prenatal care in 32.35 %. In history: there was a previous cesarean section in 67.65 %, breech presentation 23.53 %, determining factor, previous cesarean section in labor with or without oxytocin 44.11 %, and prevalence type of dehiscence 44.12 %. The majority of ruptures happened in the hospital 85.29 %, segmentary 44.12 %, treated with raffia 44.12 % and intra delivery diagnosis 55.88 %. The maternal fetal state to stand out was, neonatal weight of 3000 g or less 36.37 %, with 22 perinatal (64.70 %) and 5 maternal deaths (14.70 %). Conclusion: The uterine rupture was associated to previous uterine scar, use of oxytocin and multiparity. It is urgent a better handling of these entities to reduce the severe perinatal repercussion that it causes.
