The aim of the study is to perform sperm separation for female gender selection in order to achieve the pregnancy and birth of a baby girl. This procedure was performed for family balancing of a couple with four boys who contracted the aid of EMBRIOS, Hospital de Clínicas Caracas. The X bearing sperm cells were stained with bisbenzimide and sorted by Flow Citometry with MicroSort technology. The enriched fraction was frozen. Ovulation induction was performed with GnRH agonist and FSH. Nine mature oocytes were injected by Intracitoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and 2 embryos were transferred to the uterus. Pregnancy and the female sex fetus were confirmed by ultrasound and amniocentesis with the birth of a normal baby girl. This is the first time that sperm separation for gender selection has been successfully performed in Venezuela opening new frontiers for sex selection.
