Objective: To determine the prevalence of preterm childbirth in adolescents in 2005, to distribute them according to age, socioeconomic level, associated pathologies and perinatal complications and to associate the age with pathologies and perinatal complications. Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was made. The sample was 68 patients that completed the inclusion criteria. Revision of clinical histories was made. Setting: Hospital "Dr. Adolfo Prince Lara". Puerto Cabello, Estado Carabobo. Results: The prevalence of preterm childbirth was 10.51 %. The most frequent age range was 17-19 years with 57.4 %. The predominant socioeconomic level was the IV with 67.6 %. They showed up maternal pathologies (85.3 %) and perinatal complications (38.2 %). A significant statistically association was detected between the age and the maternal pathologies (P<0.05). Conclusion: The poverty and the low socioeconomic level are related with the pregnancy in adolescents.
