Objective: To identify aspects of interest of ectopic pregnancy, its frequency, maternal, obstetric characteristics, diagnose and treatment. Method: Retrospective and descriptive study of 179 ectopic pregnancies taken care of from 2000 to 2007, happened in 23 030 pregnancies total one; for the analysis of variables respective records were included. Setting: Department Obstetrician and Gynecology. Hospital "Dr. Adolfo Prince Lara", Puerto Cabello, Estado Carabobo. Results: The global frequency in the period was 7.77 by 1 000 pregnancies, 1 ectopic pregnancy by each 128 pregnancies. Was predominant in the age group from 20 to 29 years (54.69 %), gestations of II- V (75.52 %), age of gestation 5-8 weeks (75.52 %). The most important clinic symptoms were pain pelvic and amenorrhea (47.48 %), amenorrhea, genital pain and bleeding (20.67 %). The diagnose of ectopic pregnancy to the admission became in 80.73 %, with other pathology 15.08 % not suspected 4.17 %; the important diagnostics methods were clinics (55.73 %) and ultrasound (27.60 %). The pregnancy was broken in 79.33 %, located in fallopian tube 94.42 %, ovary 2.79 % and solved by salpingectomy 67.05%; the determining morbidity was anemia 77.1 %, was no maternal death. Conclusion: The ectopic pregnancy maintains elevated incidence, this implies to stimulate preventive activities to confront this situation and to improve the methodology diagnostic and therapeutic
