Resumen

Objective: To determine the degree of knowledge of obstetric violence and its legal implications for health personnel. Methods: A descriptive study carried out by applying a survey of 500 people from the health team working in the area of different obstetric hospitals from June to October 2010. Results: 87 % of respondents aware of the existence of a law that protects women against violence of any kind, 45.7 % of them identified the Organic Law on the Right of Women to a Life Free of Violence. 89.2 % know the term obstetric violence, pointing to executing any health personnel 82.4 %. 63.6 % had witnessed abuse of a pregnant woman, and of these, 42.8 % proved to be by the physician and 42.5 % for nurses. In 94.6 % there are no ways for vertical delivery attention and 54.4 % used informed consent. With regard to reporting mechanisms unknown 72.6 % and 71.8 % the same unknown agencies to help. 5.4 % has made complaints of violence of which 7.4 % were of obstetric violence. Conclusion: The term obstetric violence was to be known by respondents, not the existence of specific law that defines it. Acts constituting obstetric violence are unclear. Informed consent is applied. Reporting mechanisms and agencies to assist women victims of violence obstetric are unknown.
