RODRIGUEZ, Daberlyn; MONSALVE, Nazira; CONTRERAS, Jessy  e  CHIPIA LOBO, Joan Fernando. Clinical characterization of vulvar lesions in the gynecology consultation at the Instituto Autonomo Hospital Universitario de Los Andes. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2024, vol.84, n.4, pp.409-419.  Epub 05-Maio-2025. ISSN 0048-7732.  https://doi.org/10.51288/00840410.

Objective:

To analyze vulvar lesions in patients who attended the Instituto Autonomo Hospital Universitario de Los Andes gynecology clinic from February 2023 to January 2024.

Methods:

Cross-sectional analytical study, which included all patients who attended the outpatient clinic of Gynecology during the study period.

Results:

A total of 127 patients were evaluated, who presented 135 lesions, the mean age was 47 years (ranges between 15 to 90 years), the most frequent clinical characteristics were: plaques (37.8%), rounded (48.9%), smooth (65.2%), whitish (30.4%), in mixed areas (47.4%). As associated factors, 55.6% used sanitary pads and 56.3% used panty liners, mostly in reproductive age (54.1%). The most common diagnoses were: inflammatory lesions, the most frequent being lichen sclerosus (31.5%), which predominated in postmenopausal patients; condylomas (20.7%), more frequent in reproductive age; malignant lesions 9.6%, especially in postmenopausal patients. The clinical-pathological association was 82%.

Conclusions:

The most frequent vulvar lesions were inflammatory, predominantly postmenopausal, without being an exclusive pathology of that period. Condylomas were also observed in fertile women and pre-invasive pathology, highlighting the history of human papillomavirus infection.
