NUNEZ-TROCONIS, José. Adenomyosis. Narrative Review of Risk Factors, Diagnosis and Treatment. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2024, vol.84, n.4, pp.459-480.  Epub 05-Maio-2025. ISSN 0048-7732.  https://doi.org/10.51288/00840415.

Adenomyosis is a benign uterine pathology that affects women of different ages but is most frequently diagnosed in the 40s and 50s. The management of these patients remains controversial, with hysterectomy being the most frequently used method for premenopausal and perimenopausal patients. Symptoms usually include abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, and dysmenorrhea. The objective of this narrative study was to review the risk factors, the different diagnostic methods, and the treatments for adenomyosis. For this purpose, the Latin American and international bibliography was reviewed using electronic sites such as Pub-Med, Google Scholar, Springer, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Scielo, Imbiomed-L, Redalyc, and Latindex among others. The years between 1970 and January 2024 were reviewed. Risk factors, diagnostic methods, and different types of medical and surgical treatment were analyzed; however, the management of these patients remains controversial.
