MOLINA RODRIGUEZ, Ricardo. Abdominal wall endometriosis: a rare case. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2024, vol.84, n.4, pp.509-514. Epub 05-Maio-2025. ISSN 0048-7732. https://doi.org/10.51288/00840420.
Endometriosis is a benign, estrogen-dependent inflammatory disease characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma in a site other than the uterine cavity. Several theories attempt to explain its pathogenesis, the main ones involving retrograde menstruation, metaplasia of the germinal epithelium, and metastatic dissemination. They are typically located in the pelvis. The clinical picture presented is varied, involving dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, pelvic pain, and infertility. Endometriomas can also occur outside the pelvic cavity, called extrapelvic endometriosis. Among these, those that develop in the abdominal wall are even less frequent and, depending on their origin, can be primary or secondary to a surgical intervention.
