Objective:
To determine the effectiveness of fosfomycin trometamol as a treatment for urinary infections in pregnant women who attend the high-risk obstetric clinic at the Concepción Palacios Maternity Hospital, April - September 2023.
Methods:
An observational, prospective, descriptive and longitudinal study was carried out. A non-probabilistic sample of 150 patients who underwent pre- and post-treatment urinalysis with fosfomycin, 3 grams in single doses, was included. Results: After the use of fosfomycin, 140 pregnant women (92.7%) were cured and in 11 pregnant women (7.3%) there were no changes. In relation to the clinical and epidemiological characteristics, pregnant women aged 20 to 34 years predominated, of which 81 pregnant women (57.9%) were cured and in 8 pregnant women (72.7%) there were no changes, multiparas predominated; most were in the third trimester; The presence of comorbidities was observed in 78 (55.7%) with cure and 6 (54.5%) with resistance to treatment, including kidney stones and previous urinary infection. Clinical characteristics did not influence the response to treatment. (p = 0.468). Adverse reactions were few and mild.
Conclusion:
The eficacy of fosfomycin trometamol was demonstrated, and its administration was safe in the first trimester of pregnancy.
