Objective:

Estimate the incidence of cervical cancer in the year 2023 in the gynecology oncology clinic of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service of the “Dr. Domingo Luciani” Hospital.

Methods:

Retrospective, descriptive study. The medical records of patients with a diagnosis of cervical cancer who attended their first gynecological oncology consultation were reviewed, from January to December 2023.

Results:

One hundred and one patients met the inclusion criteria, the variables studied were age, histological type, stage at the time of diagnosis and indicated treatment. Among 717 patients who attended for the first time, 101 (14.08%) were diagnosed with cervical cancer; the average age at the time of diagnosis was 44.46 years; the most common histological group turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma (97.02 %). Regarding the stage, 50 cases (49.50 %) were diagnosed in stage IIIB, 23 cases (22.77%) in stage IIB and only 5.94 % were diagnosed in early stages. In most cases, the indicated treatment was radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Conclusion:

The present study reflects that cervical cancer represents a considerable percentage of gynecological consultations, with the diagnosis being made mostly in advanced stages, harming the prognosis of these patients, constituting a true public health problem.
