Abstract
SANDO MISTAGE, Carolina et al. Prediction of preeclampsia in the first trimester of pregnancy. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2025, vol.85, n.2, pp.137-151. Epub Oct 21, 2025. ISSN 0048-7732. https://doi.org/10.51288/00850205.
Objective:
To evaluate the detection rate of preeclampsia in the first trimester of pregnancy through the model of the Fetal Medicine Foundation in pregnant women who attend the “Dr. Freddy Guevara Zuloaga” Perinatology Unit of the University Hospital of Caracas during the period January-April 2024.
Methods:
Prospective cohort study; included 120 pregnant women. The risk of preeclampsia was established in the first trimester. Performance parameters were calculated to predict preterm preeclampsia.
Results:
The risk of developing preeclampsia before 37 weeks was high in 26 cases (21.7%) and low in 94 (78.3%). The risk factors associated with high-risk cases were a history of hypertension (p = 0.032) and being primigesta (p = 0.018). The pulsatility index of the uterine arteries was higher than the 95th percentile in 6 high-risk cases (23.1%) and in 1 low-risk case (1.1%) (p < 0.001). Mean arterial pressure was high in 12 high-risk cases (46.2%) and in 16 low-risk cases (17.0%) (p = 0.002). The incidence of preeclampsia was 23.3%; 10 cases were high-risk (38.5%) and 18 low-risk (19.1%) (p = 0,039). The sensitivity of the model was 35.7% and the specificity was 80.9%. With a cut-off point of 1/556, sensitivity of 80.14 % and specificity of 45.65 were obtained.
Conclusion:
The detection rate of the Fetal Medicine Foundation model was 35.7 %.
