Abstract

PEREZ-WULFF, Juan et al. Obstetric checklists: Cognitive aids that save lives. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2025, vol.85, n.2, pp.219-224.  Epub Oct 24, 2025. ISSN 0048-7732.  https://doi.org/10.51288/00850213.

In 2020, an interdisciplinary team was formed with physicians specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, perinatology, maternal fetal medicine, critical care medicine, anesthesiology, infectious disease, and neonatology to review multiple checklists used in different centers worldwide, publications available in databases, and expert opinions. They were adapted to the country’s realities and medical availability, and medical interventions, laboratory tests, pharmacological treatment, and diagnostic elements were prioritized. These lists were presented as an initiative of the Venezuelan Obstetrics and Gynecology Society for use by all healthcare personnel who require them, in the pursuit of better outcomes for patients requiring highly complex management in maternity wards. The need to adapt to changes and advances in the discipline requires constant updating, which is why the updated lists are presented.
