Resumen

AROCHA RODULFO, J. Ildefonzo. Menopausal transition. Window of opportunity for cardiometabolic prevention. An update. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2025, vol.85, n.3, pp.398-428.  Epub 23-Oct-2025. ISSN 0048-7732.  https://doi.org/10.51288/00850312.

Most of the changes experienced by women during the menopausal transition are cardiometabolic in nature, where fluctuations in sexual hormones play a leading role by transforming from a predominantly estrogenic state to the opposite androgenic one, which significantly influences changes in body composition with accumulation of visceral fat and simultaneous loss of lean muscle mass and bone density together with a series of factors in the sexual, behavioral and psychological spheres such as increased calorie intake, sleep disorders, sedentary lifestyle and depression. Estrogen replacement therapy results in multiple benefits when administered in the right time and for the right duration. The objective of this review to draw the attention of health personnel to the importance of this stage for the cardiovascular and metabolic health of women during the long years of menopause.

Palabras clave : Menopausal transition; Cardiometabolic diseases; Insulin resistance; Abdominal fat; Type 2 diabetes; Arterial hypertension.
