Abstract

BRICENO, Benito  and  MORILLO, Gilberto. Catálogo abreviado de las plantas con flores de los páramos de Venezuela. Parte I. Dicotiledóneas (Magnoliopsida). Acta Bot. Venez. [online]. 2002, vol.25, n.1, pp.1-46. ISSN 0084-5906.

The present work represents an up to date catalogue of the Dicots (Magnoliopsida) present in the Venezuelan páramos. Our results indicate that at least 78 families, 267 genera and 917 species of Dicots are present in this ecosystem in Venezuela. The most diverse families at the species level in the páramos are: Asteraceae with 261, Melastomataceae with 49, Solanaceae with 39, Scrophulariaceae with 34, Rosaceae with 33, Ericaceae with 32, Apiaceae with 29, Rubiaceae with 26 and Clusiaceae with 25 species. We found that 319 (34,78%) species are endemic to Venezuela and, in some cases, to adjacent areas of the Colombian Andes, and of those, 145 (45,45% of total amount of species) belong to the Asteraceae.
