BENITEZ DE ROJAS, Carmen y BEDOYA, Angela. Two new records of Solanum-Section Geminata for Venezuela. Acta Bot. Venez. [online]. 2004, vol.27, n.1, pp.35-55. ISSN 0084-5906.
Two new records for the Venezuelan Solanaceae are presented: Solanum palmillae Standl. and Solanum laevigatum Dunal. The first one belongs to the group species Solanum sessile group, previously known from Veracruz, Mexico. S. laevigatum is known from the Central and Western Cordillera of Colombia, and from the Peruvian Amazonia. The specimen supporting S. palmillae was found in Bolívar State, Municipio Raúl Leoni, growing in macrotermic, tropophyllous and riparian forests, and the specimens for S. laevigatum were collected in Mérida and Táchira states, growing in cloud and riparian forests. Descriptions, geographic distribution, habitat and illustrations of the two species are given. Also a key is presented for the species studied and for those morphologically related, also occurring in Venezuela.
