CHAVARRI R, Blanca y LEON H, Williams J. Anatomical study of the secondary xylem in seven species of the subfamily Acalyphoideae (Euphorbiaceae) in Venezuela. Acta Bot. Venez. [online]. 2005, vol.28, n.2, pp.233-256. ISSN 0084-5906.
Wood anatomy of seven species of Acalyphoideae subfamily (Euphorbiaceae) in Venezuela were studied: Alchornea grandiflora, A. triplinervia, Alchorneopsis floribunda, Aparisthmium cordatum, Chaetocarpus schomburgkianus, Pera bicolor and P. glabrata. Diffuse porosity, simple perforation plates, alternate intervessels pits, vessel-ray pits larger than intervessels pits, non septate fibres, and crystals in axial or radial parenchyma were observed in the seven species. Two groups were found: one group with diffuse apotracheal parenchyma in aggregates (Alchornea grandiflora, A. triplinervia, Alchorneopsis floribunda, Aparisthmium cordatum) and another group with parenchyma in narrow bands 1-2 cells wide (Chaetocarpus schomburgkianus, Pera bicolor, P. glabrata).
